Photovoltaics: citizens' investment in Lyon

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Objectives:

Toits en transition” (Roofs in transition) is a citizens’ led association aiming at developing citizens’ investments in renewable energies in the Greater Lyon area.

Characteristics:

(1) ALEC Lyon is hosting this association and has been involved in its development for last 3 years. (2) ALEC Lyon has been helping the association by creating the business model, searching for buildings corresponding to the specifications, discussing with municipalities. (3) It built 10 PV facilities on public roofs, mainly primary schools, each of them consisting of a 9 kWp installation. (4) Technology was limited to crystalline photovoltaics without technological innovation. (5) 10 installations needed various technical studies before installation. A risk structure was associated to pay for those studies (around 5,000 EUR). (6) Innovation is in the way that involve citizens in the project, and in the way they are the key stakeholders of the project.
